Living well with dogs

A lifetime dedicated to helping dog owners and their companions

Family K9 Dog Training’s goals have always been simple:

Family K9 has always had a simple goal: to provide dog owners and their dogs with the best possible training & follow up support. To create a home base for  dog training and behavioural needs both during the training process and once we have completed our work together.

Empowering humans and dogs to live their best lives and achieve their goals!

Proper Fit & Alignement

In order to work well together it is important that we align; in our vision, our objectives and our desire to improve and in our commitment to the work we do together.  For our mutual benefit, I am selective about the dog owners and the dogs I work with. I learned long ago the value of having a truly synergistic partnership with my clients and it has served me & those I work with very well over 3 decades.

Challenging, difficult and rejected dogs are always welcome!

I love working with challenging dogs and do so on a daily basis. They always require me to “level up” which keeps me sharp.

I am direct and forthright with dog owners about what is required to help improve their situation.  With an emphasis on what a reasonable expectation should be going forward with their dogs. Anything less than this would be unethical and does not sit well with me.  If ever I feel the owners expectations are not in line with what the dog is capable of I will explain what I see in their dog and guide them to the best of my ability to understand the dog’s capacity, limitations and to make the very best out of their dog and their unique situation.

To pretend that all dogs and all situations are the same and can have the same outcome is as unrealistic as pretending we could all be olympians or musicians in a symphony if only we practiced.  There is individuality in dogs just as there are people and we must recognize, respect and even capitalize on this when addressing our’s dog’s behaviours.

Family K9 has helped 1000’s of dog owners from Montreal as well as across Canada and the USA  improve their dog’s behaviour.   Consequentially  this helps to develop the bond with their canine companions.  Improved behaviour and a deeper bond and connection – that should always be the goal!

The Joy of living with and sharing our lives with dogs

I have been doing this a very long time and I understand dog owners as well as I do their dogs.  I understand people’s motivation for training their canine companions and what their hopes are when contacting a dog trainer.

People have a vision in mind when they bring a dog into their lives. They have a movie reel playing in their head of what living with their dog will be like.  The activities they will pursue, the time they will share and proper training and understanding will ultimately be what enables them to live well together.

My goals are to help people better understand and train their dogs.  To develop their dog’s obedience and above all the dog’s confidence and character to its fullest potential.  To help owners realize their dreams and understand their dogs – for the mutual benefit of the human & canine team!

Open hearts and minds

In order to foster change in our dog’s behaviour we have to be willing to examine not only the dog as a sole entity but also the impact of our behaviour and that of the environment on our dog. This means that we have to look at the totality of the influences on the dog and often requires owners to make changes, step outside their comfort zone and try things

Architect of change and growth

” Nick is an amazing trainer with a passion for dogs and an understanding of their behavior.

My dog Rosie responded beautifully to Nick’s training methods. I saw immediate results transforming her into a much calmer and secure dog and in the process, helping me better understand the reasons for her current behavior.

Hiring Nick was a great decision and I strongly recommend him! “
